Our story

Over 20 years of music in Narragansett

The Dunes Trio has been the house trio at the historic Dunes Club since 2006. Over more than two decades together, vocalist and pianist Debbie Sullivan, drummer Paul Mason and bassist Tom Charlap have developed a distinctive sound and a natural musical connection.

Their performances combine polished musicianship with the relaxed warmth of a summer evening by the Rhode Island coast.

Meet Debbie, Paul and Tom

Debbie Sullivan

Vocals & piano

Debbie’s career has taken her from New England jazz groups and Boston piano rooms to hotels and cruise ships in Sweden and Switzerland. She also spent eight summers as house pianist at the Nantucket Yacht Club.

After devoting 26 years to teaching music, Debbie is now retired from teaching and delighted to have more time to perform at private events and pursue new musical opportunities.

Paul Mason

Drums

Rhode Island native Paul Mason is a drummer, educator, producer and recording musician who earned his music degree from the University of Rhode Island and has performed throughout New England.

Paul has taught jazz drum set at Brown University for more than 30 years and has also taught at the Wheeler School and Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School.

Tom Charlap

Acoustic or electric bass

Tom studied at Jazzmobile and the Manhattan School of Music. His career includes the Woody Herman Band, Tavern on the Green, Broadway and touring productions, clubs, cruise ships and numerous recordings.
